When my brother, Lee was about 8 years old, he was diagnosed with Hodgkin’s Disease, cancer that attacks your lymph system.  That diagnosis was the scariest thing that my family had ever experienced.  Times were tough!  There were 6 kids in our family by that time, and my youngest brother Tommy was only a couple months old.  I was the oldest sibling and was just 14 years old.  Receiving this horrifying news instantly made my role as a big sister more important than ever.  It meant that I had to grow up really fast.  I was now Mom #2, and I happily took on every responsibility that was tossed my way.  I learned how to take charge and get things done.  In the end, Lee’s treatment took about two years, and then he was cancer free.  The entire experience was grueling, yet we learned many lessons about life and family togetherness.  We are a very tight family.  17 years later, Lee and I still maintain the very special bond that was formed during that time.

Our first and only family vacation was one of the few good things that came out of this horrible thing called cancer.  Make-A-Wish made all of the arrangements and they partnered with a group in Orlando, Florida to give my family an experience that we never would have had otherwise.  They flew my entire family to Orlando, gave us a mini van, provided accommodations for eight of us, fed us and gave us free access to Disney World, Universal Studios and Sea World.  We also experienced the beach for the first time, and I’ve been hooked ever since!  We are ever so thankful for the experience and the amazing memories.  And now, I’m excited to be able to give something back to the awesome group that gave us so much to be thankful for.

On September 28, Make-A-Wish is hosting their 14th Annual Celebrity Server Dinner at Flemings Steak House in Frontenac.  We will be in there with our photobooth in the VIP tent for the (Sponsor Only) Cocktail Reception before the dinner.  There, Wish Sponsors will be able to get their photos taken in our booth with cheerleaders and players for a small donation to benefit Make-A-Wish.  It sounds like a ton of fun!  Dinner will be held immediately after, and this is the best part!  If you purchase tickets for a booth or sponsor a wish, you will  enjoy a dinner served by St. Louis Rams players.  How cool is that?!?  For more information or to purchase tickets, visit Make-A-Wish of Missouri online.
