score a deal on your guestbook | artmart st. louis

I’ll start by saying that I LOVE Kolo albums.  Their Newport and Newbury albums make perfect photo guestbooks.  They are clean & classy and come in a variety of fun sizes and colors.  Though we have a business account with Kolo, we have found that some of their more popular leather albums are often on backorder and sold out in stores.

Recently, a bride told me about the huge inventory of Kolo albums at ArtMart.  So, I went to check it out for myself, and I could hardly contain my excitement when I discovered the enormous selection available.  I even picked up several of their discontinued styles for my own personal collection at a deep discount.  But the best part was when I got to the checkout counter, the attendant told me that if I went online to sign up for their “artmail”, I would receive a coupon for 40% off any one of their regular priced items, including Kolo albums.  So I did, and they e-mailed the coupon to me right away.  The only stipulation, you have to use it within 30 days of registering.  NO PROBLEM!

So, if you are looking to save some cash on your guestbook, go to ArtmartSTL.com and click on the ad to sign up for your coupon.  Then, just head out to Artmart at 2355 South Hanley Road in St. Louis to pick up your album for a near steal!  Don’t forget to pick up some refill pages, too.  The Newport books only come with 10 preloaded sheets, so you’ll want to grab at least two more refill packs to fill up your book.

st louis magazine | we got a mention

Several weeks ago, I received a call from a writer for St. Louis Magazine.  You can imagine my surprise, as she recounted her conversation with one of our past brides who insisted that I would be a good source for information.  The writer was working on an article featuring a few out of the ordinary places to get married or host your reception in and around St. Louis.  Over the last two years, we have worked many venues, but there are only a few that really stood out as extraordinary.  Don’t get me wrong, most of the places we’ve been privileged to work at are simply fabulous, but they are obvious bridal venues, hosting several weddings each weekend.  For this article, the writer was looking for “Something New” and unique.  I couldn’t help but share my two favorite places with her, and they earned the top two spots in her article.  And, our couples got a mention in the article, too.  If you are looking for ideas for your upcoming wedding, go grab the January issue of St. Louis Magazine and check out the Unveiled 2010 section.  We are mentioned on page 102, along with some of our favorite wedding venues.  In the meantime, here is a sneak peek of what the writer featured:

STL Mag

Number 1: The Thaxton located in downtown St. Louis, at 1009 Olive Street.  The Thaxton was built in 1928, and has been restored to it’s original Art Deco splendor.  Perfectly fitting into the super chic, eclectic and vintage themes that are all the rage, this venue offers something truly unique with three levels of extravagance.  And, it is quite affordable.  My favorite part, there is restored SpeakEasy in the lower level. You know…the places where you had to have know a password to gain entry, during the days of prohibition.

Thaxton

Number 2: Cedar Lake Farm, located in Wright City, is truly one of the most special places we’ve seen.  Rustic chic is totally in right now, and Cedar Lake completely fits the bill.  I grew up on a farm and am a bit of a country girl at heart.  So, this farm instantly captured my attention.  I fell in love with the renovated red barn.  And, the rest of the grounds are just dying for exploration.  There’s a photo op at every turn.  In fact, David and I had to go back for our anniversary portrait session with the fun and fabulous photographer Holly McCaig.

Cedar Lake 4

Thanks to Dae Cochran helping us to make the connection with St. Louis Magazine.  Thanks to John & Deanna Dedeke and Tom & Maggie Hase for letting us share your stories.  And, congrats to our friends Jodi Schlosser, Stephanie Burke and Michelle Ross for also getting a mention.

January 7, 2010 - 7:09 pm Brit - So excited for you! And, so glad Fete got a mention! I love Cedar Lake Farm. If I were a "barn wedding" kind of girl, I would have a wedding there. And, this reminds me, I need to do a post about that venue!

January 15, 2010 - 6:22 pm Maggie Hase - Cherie- So honored to be included in the St. Louis Magazine Article! I actually screamed aloud when I was in Walgreen's and realized January's issue was out on the stands. Thanks so much for the connection. I recently had a prospective bride contact me regarding your photobooth and I couldn't have raved anymore than I did about your company. Your personal attention to detail, your professionalism and just how absolutely FUN you and David were to have as a part of our wedding. Our guest STILL comment on how much fun our wedding was with the addition of your photobooth there! Thanks so much and best in 2010! Maggie

it takes two baby | why your wedding vendors should come in pairs

We were at a wedding recently, and I had an epiphany.  Really, it wasn’t an epiphany at all, but I witnessed a real life experience that solidified the reasoning that I have always gone by in our business.  I’ll first start by stating that the couple hired a Day of Coordinator that did not have an assistant on hand for the duration of the reception, and I do not think that the coordinator was present at the ceremony.  Someone in the wedding party forgot to bring a very important item from the ceremony site to the reception, and the realization of such sent the coordinator into a panic.  She could not leave the reception to go and retrieve the item, and she did not have an assistant on hand that she could send out to pick it up either.  All ended well because she managed to reach an off-site staff member by phone, and that person made a run to the store to purchase a replacement for the missing item.

I will not go to an event without an assistant, ever, period!  I always make sure that I have help.  You may wonder why it takes two people to run a photobooth at an event.  And, I have a great answer.  It doesn’t really take two people, but I need an assistant for my peace of mind. I need to know that if I have to walk away for a moment that there is someone there to take care of our clients and their guests.  This also makes it possible for me to devote most of my time to putting the photo guestbook together while my assistant lends a hand to guests and answers questions about how the booth works.  And, if something should go wrong, not that it ever has, I have someone that I can send out to get back-up equipment.  Securing an assistant to work along side me is like an added insurance policy for me and my business.

The moral of this story is to check with your vendors to make sure that they will have an assistant on hand for your wedding.  Two heads are better than one, especially on an occasion like this.  Does your photographer offer a second shooter?  Does your wedding coordinator bring along an assistant coordinator?  If something goes wrong, and your vendor can’t leave, who will she send?  The fact is that you are likely spending more money on this day than any other day of your life, so check all the facts.  Make certain that there will be no missing pieces (or assistants) on your wedding day.

And because every post  is better with a photo, here’s one of me with my assistant, and husband, at our friends’ going away party last Saturday.

rock that wedding gown | online personal trainer

Okay, this is totally off the topic of photobooths.  But, because weddings are our main source of business, I feel that sharing tips with Brides to help them look amazing on their wedding day is completely acceptable.  Afterall, brides want to look hot in their photobooth pictures, too!

Here’s my personal story: I’ve had a gym membership for the last 10 years, but I’ve switched gyms several times.  I started out at the tiny old Gold’s Gym in Manchester.  It was right down the street from my workplace, so it made sense, and I frequented the treadmill on a near daily basis.  Time went by, and I didn’t see any major result, so I started cutting back on my time spent at the gym.  After about a year, we moved about a half hour away from our gym, so we switched to a community recreation center that was closer to home.  But, I hated the workout environment, so I all but stopped working out.  I managed to visit the gym once a month, just to say that I went.  After that didn’t work out so well, we switched our membership to 24-Hour Fitness.  I loved the place!  They had classes like cardio kickboxing and step aerobics.  This I could do, and it helped keep me motivated.  But, it too was a little far from home.  So, my attendance dwindled.  Then, we switched to a small local gym that was extremely close to home.  The owner was a professional athlete, and he offered personal training.  So, I got one-on-one assistance from an amazing trainer.  I loved the owner/trainer, and I loved the state of the art equipment in his gym.  But, I refused to work out without a trainer.  That eventually got expensive, and my bank account started to feel the squeeze.  Since his gym didn’t offer free classes, I decided to switch to the brand new  Gold’s Gym in town.  Again, it was on…I was at the gym 5 days a week and went to every class that I could fit into my schedule.  But, I dwindled because the class times didn’t really work with my schedule.  If I tried working out my own without a trainer or a class instructor, I felt lost-completely 100 percent L – O – S – T, LOST!  I needed help, major help!

So recently, my husband found Personal Trainer on Men’s Health Magazine online.  He got the 30 Day Trial, filled in his personal information, and got his customized workout plan.  David has also worked out religiously for the last 14 years, never missing a week-even on vacation!  He has always looked fit, but recently I started noticing a big difference in his physique.  He went from just having a flat stomach to having actual definition.  The boy is well on his way to having washboard abs!  This change happened all in a matter of weeks.  The program actually works, and entire year of training costs less than two sessions with a personal trainer.

After David’s results became quite visible, I thought, ‘I must check this out!’  But of course, I don’t want a fitness plan for a man…I have curves that I want to keep.  So, I did a little digging, and I found that Fitness Magazine has a similar Personal Trainer program for women.  So excited!  I signed up right away, and I got my own personal workout and meal plan.  The best part is that the Fitness Magazine program costs less than the Men’s Health program.  The fee is just $69.99 per year, or $8.99 a month.  That’s less than the cost of just one session with a trainer.  I will share my progress as I make my way through the program, but I am so excited to have a plan to help me navigate the gym and keep me motivated.  This is more than half the battle.

Here’s a example of what the program looks like:

about us | david & cherie photoboothiers in love

Hi, I’m Cherie Irwin.  I own CI Photobooth, along with my super cute husband David.  Today, I decided that it would be a good idea to introduce ourselves to our clients, potential clients and anyone else who may read this little blog.  My reasoning is plainly this: I am the CI in CI Photobooth!  Every part of CI Photobooth has come from my imagination, my research and my love for all things fun and fierce.  I am an outside the box kinda girl, and I’m married to a totally inside the box type of guy.  It is a wild combination.  I am the whimsical one always reaching out for the next big and interesting thing, while David is the one that holds tightly onto my rope and pulls me back down after I’ve drifted a little too far into the clouds.  I am the silly one, always saying whatever I can to make others laugh.  And, David is a little more serious.  So, while he is there to keep me grounded, I do my best to lighten the air and raise his spirits.  Sometimes, however, we flip roles.  When I’m having a bad day, he somehow figures out how to make me laugh.  He knows exactly what to do to make me happy.  He makes me feel secure and takes care of me.  I am deeply in love with him, and I think he still feels the same way about me.

“Why am I telling you all of this?”, you may ask.  The answer lies in the fact that I personally attend every single event that CI Photobooth is privileged to participate in.  And, David comes with me.  He likes to say he is my assistant, but he is really like an extension of me.  While he does all of my heavy lifting, he also interacts with guests throughout the entire night.  He helps them figure out which props to wear, he assists little old grandmothers get in and out of the booth, he answers questions, repeatedly explains how the booth works, and he smiles at everyone that walks past.  At the end of the night, he patiently helps me pack everything up.  Then, he drives me home.  So, since we attend every event, we want you to know who we are when you hire us.  We want you to know the kind of people that will be there for you on your wedding day!  We want you to know that we love weddings and are happy to be attending yours…

Yesterday, we celebrated the day that we got married, 8 years ago!  The time has flown by, and we are more in love today than we were when we said our “I do’s.”  And, because photos are such a big part of our life, we decided it would be appropriate to document the day with a photo shoot.  The one and only Holly McCaig followed us around the gorgeous grounds of  Cedar Lake Farm, one of my favorite wedding venues, to capture the love that we so openly share.

To Holly: Thank you for letting us share these with our friends on our blog.  You are awesome!!!

Here are some of Holly’s favorites from the day…

a swanky new arrival | new to the luxe collection

The Fed-Ex truck pulled up, and I was hopeful that the delivery man was about to wheel out our new super fast printer.  Instead, I see him pull out a much prettier box than I had expected.  The beautiful black and white packaging looked quite familiar.  My look must have been puzzled as I opened the door because I was greeted with the unexpected.  Several months ago, I ordered the “Swanky” backdrop to add to our new luxe collection.  We had been waiting for it for so long that I completely forgot about it’s October arrival date.  Our long awaited hot pink and gray damask backdrop is finally here!  I’m so excited to introduce Swanky…now available for use as part of our Luxe Collection of backdrops.

Stay tuned for photobooth fun shots with our new Swanky drop.

photobooth fun | videoslide style

My friend Holly McCaig turned me on to a fabulous video slideshow tool.  I thought it was so much fun that I had to put together a slideshow for one of my favorite brides, Mrs. Daphney Sumner.  I’m still playing around with this, so it isn’t perfect.  But it is so cool.  Check out the fun Daphney & Travis’ guests had in our booth…
